Examining barriers to cisco and lake whitefish restoration in Lake Ontario, including spawning habitat availability, early life history, interspecies interactions, and population genetics.

Larval fish population ecology in Lake Ontario, including community composition, diets, growth, predation, and habitat use. 

Quantifying natural reproduction of Chinook and coho salmon in tributary streams of eastern Lake Ontario. This project aims to establish a long-term shore seining index survey to compare distribution of juvenile wild and hatchery-origin salmon in nearshore areas of the lake. Nearshore seines will be paired with in-stream sampling to demonstrate outmigration of salmon smolts from different tributaries. Parentage-based genetic tagging will be used to determine hatchery vs. wild origin.
